OBJECTIVES OF #YouthCon:
Youth Con will serve as a crucial platform for middle and high school youth in St. Lucie County to engage, deliberate, and contribute solutions that align with the Vision and Mission of Drug Free St. Lucie.
Vision: A healthy, vibrant community that is substance-free.
Mission: To cultivate a community that supports a substance-free lifestyle and well-being in youth through advocacy and community collaboration.
- To Empower Youth: Provide resources and skills through capacity-building workshops, enabling them to be proactive contributors to community solutions.
- To Engage in Inclusive Dialogue: Encourage participation from marginalized and underrepresented youth, ensuring diverse voices, concerns, and insights shape the conversations and outcomes.
- To Encourage Innovative Solutions: Facilitate the development of ideas and strategies to address youth substance use prevention.
- To Facilitate Collaboration: Cultivate partnerships between youth from different youth organizations towards a shared goal.
Themes & Topics:
- Teen Talk Café – A safe space for the young people of St. Lucie Co. to have critical dialogue around the issues affecting them and an opportunity to collect qualitative data to help inform the Social Norms Campaign.
- Social Norms Campaign – In this session youth will define what is a social norm, be able to identify the social norms they witness or adhere to and explore alternatives. Then, participants will narrow down the norms they want to address and produce a ‘social media’ social norms campaign.
